#15.....I think
I’ve had worse nights at the crit. I’ll admit, I havn’t been on the bike but once in 3 ½ weeks. Vacation, rain outs and family obligations have taken their toll on my current cycling condition. To put it bluntly, I’ve drank far more ounces of beer in the last month that I’ve put miles on my bike. I’ve also been working on another song called “You Left Town”. I’ll try to get a crude recording of it at put it up on myspace. Nonetheless, I’ve been here before and I’ll get it back. I finally got the parts to fix my rollers so I’m going to start training a little more on it rather than going to the gym and getting on the elliptical.
Tonight’s crit started much like last week with all of us warming up and looking to the heavens waiting for the bottom to drop. We pulled up to the line at 6:30. Someone yelled go and I lasted about 20 minutes. I took a free lap after the guy on the red Trek took himself out right behind me. I think he lapped my wheel and when the pace line shifted to the right, he didn’t. I looked back and he was down. I came back around with the group and he was gone.
I ended up throwing in the towel at the 40 minute mark, packed my shite and went home. Normally, I beat myself up on the way home for poor performance. Not tonight, I’m smart enough to know when you don’t ride you don’t compete. Plus, as always, I got a hero’s welcome from the kids when I got home. Of course that time is limited too. Once they hit their teens I’ll become an idiot.

Don't worry about it, I noticed a lot of (normally strong) people taking a "free lap" (or two) on Tuesday night--in other words, I had a lot of company this week!
At least we haven't quit the TNCWC altogether as someone else we know. ;-)

Oh, okay, being a parent and helping out the H.O. comes second to the crit (rollseyes)...
BTW- Joel, did you enjoy your solo ride home last night?
