#16 and a Chinese Experience
Someone mentioned to me this morning “Hey, let’s go out to lunch”. I said OK and didn’t think much more about it. I hopped in the car with Sam and he said the group had chosen a Chinese buffet. Crap! I thought. I remember telling Sam last summer that if I suggested eating a Chinese buffet again to beat me into a bloody pulp with my own arm.
Anyway, we get to the place and it smells like most Chinese buffets and I partake in the food and fellowship.
Immediately feeling like shite, I waddled back into my office and tried to concentrate on my work. After a bathroom visit trifecta, the afternoon was shot and my butt slithtly……
Let’s not go there…..
So I make it out to another installment of the Tuesday crit facing hell like temperatures and a slightly upset stomach. I managed to stay in for the whole ride and took a few token pulls at the front. Unlike last week, I didn’t take a free lap and felt like I could handle the speed that we were riding.
Somehow at the end our group got the time/lap stuff mixed up which yielded a very eventless finish. We thought there was still a lap to go when in fact there wasn’t. Kinda like kissing your sister. Nothing!
I am pretty happy though. I managed to stay in the group, do a little work and reward myself with a Hobath™ at home.

6/23/07
A fine ride on a Saturday

So just when you think it’s going to be “just another ride” a fat chick in a Olsmobuick pulls out in front of us trying to turn left…..and STOPS!!! This would be the “ohmygod” moment of the week. I was behind Big Leg Dave™ when it happened. He locked up his rear wheel and I proceeded to lock up mine and swerve left. Just barely out of reach of her hood probably saved my hand from being bruised because if I could have reached it, I would have put a nice ding in the middle of it.
Anyway, the legs felt better today than they did on Tuesday. We actually had a pretty good 26mph pace line heading into Gilbert from the west. Again, I love these country roads out here. There’s little traffic!!! In fact BLD™ mentioned at one point that a car hadn’t passed us in 15 miles.
There’s no drama out here either. Everybody likes each other and there’s very little talking of the shite. All of which makes up for very enjoyable Saturday AM riding.
The big story this week, aside from the dumb ass that almost killed us, is New Leg Martin™. Folks, this guy has found his legs in the past few weeks. Only a month ago, he was getting dropped and sweating like a whore in church. Now, he looks very comfortable on his bike and at one point looked as though he was attacking OSP™ on one of the hills.
So there’s the recap, please post a comment if I missed anything. Off to the pool!

#15.....I think
I’ve had worse nights at the crit. I’ll admit, I havn’t been on the bike but once in 3 ½ weeks. Vacation, rain outs and family obligations have taken their toll on my current cycling condition. To put it bluntly, I’ve drank far more ounces of beer in the last month that I’ve put miles on my bike. I’ve also been working on another song called “You Left Town”. I’ll try to get a crude recording of it at put it up on myspace. Nonetheless, I’ve been here before and I’ll get it back. I finally got the parts to fix my rollers so I’m going to start training a little more on it rather than going to the gym and getting on the elliptical.

Tonight’s crit started much like last week with all of us warming up and looking to the heavens waiting for the bottom to drop. We pulled up to the line at 6:30. Someone yelled go and I lasted about 20 minutes. I took a free lap after the guy on the red Trek took himself out right behind me. I think he lapped my wheel and when the pace line shifted to the right, he didn’t. I looked back and he was down. I came back around with the group and he was gone.
I ended up throwing in the towel at the 40 minute mark, packed my shite and went home. Normally, I beat myself up on the way home for poor performance. Not tonight, I’m smart enough to know when you don’t ride you don’t compete. Plus, as always, I got a hero’s welcome from the kids when I got home. Of course that time is limited too. Once they hit their teens I’ll become an idiot.

Rail / Hailed out! There was considerable rain/wind and hail just moments before 6:30 tonight. A few stayed to race but I left. I only get one kitchen pass a week so I decided to go home and cash it in on Thursday. If the weather holds out I'll post something about that ride.

On to this past Saturday
6/9/07
What a nice ride today. No drama, no wind and no major RDN (Real Damn Nervous) moments to speak of. OSP is starting to develop into a roadie. He's road bike handling skills are much improved just since the first ride I did with this group a month ago.

So the ride started out quite mild with temps in the hi 60's. That didn't last! By the time 10AM rolled around it was hot as balls and we were all ready to stop and buy a drink. We didn't stop on "Redneck Hill" this time. The group chose to stop at a BP in Batesburg. I gotta tell you, the roads in western Lexington County are some of the best roads I've ever ridden and with little to no traffic. This week's ride proved to be much hillier than I had anticipated. After all, this ride was on the heels of tying on a pretty good drunk at the pool the night before.

Anyway, it's off to work on the building in the back yard and then off to another pool party with some old school chums.
